Karen Kinghan has been working in Belfast and also in the US for the last 10 years as a filmmaker and animator. Having studied media & culture in Edinburgh, she started off working alongside Northern Irelands Creative Learning Centres to bring the moving image into mainstream education. Now she also teaches Moving Image Arts part-time, and is Assistant Principal Moderator for the GCSE subject.
Having honed her producing skills with NI Screen on the Short Steps programme, she went on to having herself starred in two independent feature films and numerous local short films.
Her community filmmaking projects explore sensitive issues and have worked to bridge divides, taking her from Ireland to the rest of Europe.
